Antiphōnon, 2026

Antiphōnon (ἀντίφωνον): in ancient Greek, anti: facing, against, and phōnē: voice. A sound made toward another sound. In the church, the choir splits in two, singing across the nave verse by verse; the congregation seated between them turns its head with the sound. The two sides never breathe at once; the instant one voice closes a phrase is the other's intake of breath, so the music never seems to pause: safety answers freedom, now answers future, utility answers culture. Six symbols form six fixed chants: the Eye, the Ship, the Garden, the Seed, the Book, the Stamp. Each carries its own documented iconographic lineage: from the panopticon's floor plan to the Virgin's enclosed garden, from Millet's sower to the seals of Revelation. And within every dialogue, three voices testify: quotes, the fictional stories, and the youth who lived these dilemmas while playing the Fall of Artica Game.
