Antiphōnon, 2026

Antiphōnon (ἀντίφωνον): in ancient Greek, anti — facing, against — and phōnē — voice. A sound made toward another sound. In the church, the choir splits in two, singing across the nave verse by verse; the congregation seated between them turns its head with the sound. The two sides never breathe at once — the instant one voice closes a phrase is the other's intake of breath, so the music never seems to pause: safety answers freedom, now answers future, utility answers culture. Six symbols form six fixed chants: the Eye, the Ship, the Garden, the Seed, the Book, the Stamp. Each carries its own documented iconographic lineage — from the panopticon's floor plan to the Virgin's enclosed garden, from Millet's sower to the seals of Revelation. And within every dialogue, three voices: theory quotes, the fictional world's paperwork stamps, and the teenagers who lived these dilemmas inside the game Fall of Artica testify.
